The Department of Early Child Care and Education is committed to training
childcare specialists who can approach each individual child with boundless
affection, regardless of that child's background or personality. Graduates
must be able to deal with energetic children, competitive children, children
who act older than they are, shy or introverted childrencIn order to be
able to see things from each child's point of view and understand their
feelings, students training to for a career in childcare must polish their
character as individuals. In order to watch over the physical, emotional,
and mental development of children, childcare specialists must first learn
social manners and common sense, becoming thoughtful adults. They must
then learn fundamental knowledge regarding individual stages of child development,
studying how to use music and arts and craft to help children develop rich
sensibilities and mastering the art of teaching in an actual classroom
environment. The Department has brought together an advanced and far-ranging
curriculum in order to train childcare specialists who can deal effectively
with the bewildering pace of change that characterizes our society, incorporating
a practical training component that brings students into direct contact
with children and gives them valuable experience that cannot be learned
from any textbook. After graduation, students can acquire a Class 2 kindergarten
teacher's license and/or receive certification as a childcare specialist.
I invite students to take hold of these two passports and all the hidden
potential they represent and move forward as childcare specialists who
will be loved by children and trusted by parents.
